Quick answer
Choose the Pet Dog Set if your child wants a small, portable pet-care toy that fits 1:12 dollhouses; choose the Safari Collection if you want a display-ready group of eight safari animals for collecting and story play.
Scale and portability change how each set gets used
The Pet Dog Set is built around a single basset hound with a bowl, bone and a kennel that has an opening door and carry handle. That handle matters: it turns the set into a take-along toy rather than something that stays on a shelf. The 1:12 scale also means it can join an existing wooden dollhouse setup without looking out of place.
The Safari Collection works the other way. Its eight animals come with a display shelf, so the set is designed to be seen as a group. That makes it better for a bedroom shelf or a shared playroom where the animals can stay out between play sessions.
One pet versus eight animals: different kinds of play
A single dog invites nurturing play: feeding, putting the dog in the kennel, carrying it along. The Safari Collection invites comparison and grouping: lining up the crocodile, zebra, giraffe, lion, antelope, elephant, rhinoceros and hippopotamus, sorting them, or using them as a cast of characters.
Neither approach is better in general. The question is whether your child tends to focus on one character or enjoys managing a whole group.
Trade-offs to weigh before you choose
- Portability vs display: The Pet Dog Set packs into a kennel with a carry handle, so it travels easily; the Safari Collection comes with a display shelf, so it is better suited to staying in one place. If the toy needs to leave the house regularly, the Pet Dog Set is the more practical shape.
- Dollhouse compatibility vs standalone collection: The Pet Dog Set is scaled to 1:12 for wooden dollhouses; the Safari Collection is a set of eight animals with a shelf, not described as dollhouse-scaled. Check whether you are buying for an existing dollhouse or for a free-standing animal collection.
- Focused play vs group play: One dog with a bowl and bone supports feeding and pet-care routines; eight safari animals support sorting, naming and group storytelling. Match the set to the kind of play your child already repeats, not to the one you hope they will start.
Product facts at a glance
- Pet Dog Set: Includes a basset hound, bowl, bone and a kennel with an opening door and carry handle, scaled to 1:12 for wooden dollhouses. The carry handle and dollhouse scale make it a practical travel or dollhouse accessory rather than a shelf display.
Pet Dog Set - Safari Collection: Includes eight animal figures (crocodile, zebra, giraffe, lion, antelope, elephant, rhinoceros and hippopotamus) plus a display shelf. The shelf and larger figure count suit children who want a collection to arrange and display, not a single pet.
