How to Clean and Care for a Wooden Humming Bird House

Quick answer

Clean your wooden Humming Bird House with a soft, dry cloth or a slightly damp cloth, then dry immediately. Avoid soaking or harsh chemicals.

Step-by-step cleaning guide

1. Dust with a soft dry cloth: Use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently wipe all surfaces, including the veranda, door, and shutters. For hard-to-reach spots, use a soft brush or a dry paintbrush. Common mistake: using a wet cloth first, which can grind dirt into the wood. Always dry-dust first.
2. Spot clean with a barely damp cloth: Dampen a cloth with water and wring it out until it's just slightly moist. Wipe any visible marks, then immediately dry the area with a separate dry cloth. Checkpoint: ensure no moisture seeps into cracks or around the shutters. Dry each window frame individually.
3. Air dry completely before storage: Place the house in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight for at least an hour. Confirm all parts are dry before putting it away or displaying it. Common mistake: storing while damp, which can cause mold or warping. Test by touching any crevices with your finger.
